French ice dancer Gabriella Papadakis suffered an ill-timed wardrobe malfunction during her routine at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The 22-year-old French Olympian, dancing to British singer Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” with her partner Guillaume Cizerone, had her left breast exposed on live television at the Pyeongchang Olympics. Papadakis said that the incident was her “worst nightmare”:
“I felt it right away and I prayed,” Papadakis said after the routine. “That’s about what I could do.”
“It was pretty distracting, kind of my worst nightmare happening at the Olympics,” Papadakis told reporters. “I told myself, ‘I don’t have a choice. I have to keep going,’ and that’s what we did. I think we can be proud of ourselves being able to deliver a great performance with that happening.”
The French Ice Dancing team of Papadakis and Cizerone finished with a final score of 81.93, second behind only Team Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Furthermore, American competitors Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue finished in third. The free dance portion of the event will take place on Tuesday, February 20` at South Korea’s Gangneung Ice Arena.
