The Early Years
Patrick was born in Wisconsin and raised in Illinois, going on to attend Hononegah Community High School in Rockton. When Patrick was ten years old, her family looked into a hobby they could pursue together, with both Patrick and her sister taking a shine to go-karts. At the young age of 13, Patrick sought to compete in races, initially winning regional karting titles, before going on to the World Karting Association Grand National Championship. In 1996, she was accepted into the Indianapolis-based Lyn St. James Foundation Driver Development Program. During this time, she was prominent enough to be featured on segments for ABC and MTV. In May 1998, she also competed in a Sports Car Club of America race at Daytona International Speedway.
1998-2004
Afterwards, she moved to England by herself in order to further her racing career, initially getting funding from the Ford Motor Company; she later convinced her father to underwrite her career. During the three years she spent in England, she raced in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford. By 2004, after competing in the Toyota Atlantic Series for two years in a row, she became the first woman to win a pole position in series’ history at the Portland International Raceway race and the first woman to lead the championship standings, after finishing second.
2005-2009
In late 2004, Rahal Letterman Racing named Patrick to their IndyCar Series roster for 2005, marking the start of her IndyCar series career. Staying with them for two years, she later went on to Andretti Green Racing. By the end of the 2008 season, she ended up the highest placed American over the course of the season. In the 2009 off-season, she made an appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona before returning to Andretti Green Racing for the year’s season. After being renamed Andretti Autosport, Patrick signed on for a contract extension to last the next two seasons, having her final two full-time IndyCar seasons.
2010-Present
In 2010, Patrick started her stock racing career, entering an ARCA Racing series race. By 2012, she made her switch to the Sprint Cup Series, signing with Stewart-Haas Racing, staying with them until the 2017 season. For her final NASCAR race, which will be the 2018 Daytona 500, she was signed by Premium Motorsports.
