Timothee Chalamet broke into the big leagues this year, gaining worldwide recognition for his performance as 17-year-old Elio in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. But the Sundance Film Festival hit wasn’t exactly this young actor’s first gig.

Timothee Chalamet Net Worth: $1 Million

The Early Years

Chalamet was born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan and attended the prestigious Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. It was during his time as a student here that he famously dated Lourdes Leon, daughter of Madonna and Chalamet’s then classmate. Chalamet’s decision to pursue the arts must not have come as a surprise to his family. His uncle is filmmaker Rodman Flender and his aunt is the television producer and writer Amy Lippman, so the creative talent clearly runs in the family. As a child, Chalamet starred in several short films and even managed to book a spot on Law & Order as a murder victim.

But it wasn’t until Chalamet’s turn as Finn Walden on Showtime’s Homeland that audiences were introduced to Chalamet in a substantial capacity. On the critically acclaimed series, Chalamet starred alongside Claire Daines as the Vice President’s wayward teenage son. The role offered Chalamet to be part of an ensemble that would go on to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble.

This led filmmaker Jason Reitman to offer Chalamet a small role in his 2014 film Men, Women & Children, the young actor’s feature film debut. It was around this time that Chalamet was accepted to Columbia University in the City of New York, and attended for a short time before dropping out to be in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Priorities.

2016-Present

In 2016, Chalamet starred opposite Lily Rabe in the indie feature Miss Stevens and returned to the theater as the lead in Manhattan Theatre Club’s Prodigal Son produced by Scott Rudin. The performance garnered favorable reviews from critics, earning Chalamet a Drama Leauge Award nomination. Producer Scott Rudin would go on to remember Chalamet when casting Greta Gerwig’s triumphant Lady Bird just last year. His performance as the rich anarchist love interest to Saoirse Ronan’s titular character gave birth to his current heartthrob status and solidified the fact that 2017 was the year of Chalamet.

The 22-year-old actor can be seen in not one but two Oscar hopeful’s this year between Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name, and is expected to be nominated in the best actor category for the later. The young star has ricocheted to legendary status because of his nuanced performance as a young boy growing into his sexuality alongside Armie Hamer’s Oliver in the now iconic romance film.

In terms of what’s next for Chalamet, the actor has already wrapped production as the lead in Woody Allen’s forthcoming A Rainy Day In New York, co-starring Selena Gomez. But don’t expect the actor to embark on a press tour for that one. In a bold move this week Chalamet relayed via Instagram that he’s had second thoughts about working with the controversial director and will not be profiting from the film. He has chosen instead to donate all of his salary earnings to TIME’S UP in support of fighting rampant sexual harassment in Hollywood along with the LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN.

So how much is this young inspiring actor worth after the tremendous year of success he’s had? Chalamet’s net worth is estimated to be around $1 million but would be expected to increase if he takes home the Oscar this February.
