Who is this guy who plays for the Oklahoma Sooners that has NBA superstars watching his every move? it’s not either than Trae Young. Trae Young has been having one of the most electric freshman seasons in recent memory between his deep 3 point range and his stellar passing abilities. Steph Curry even said “That guy is unbelievable”, pretty high praise from a 2 time MVP. Before the season started no one really knew who Young was and now he’s all anyone is talking about.

Trae Young Details

Age: 19, (born: September 19, 1998)
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 180 lb.
Birthplace: Lubbock, Texas
High school: Norman North (Norman, Oklahoma)
Team: Oklahoma Sooners

High School

Trae Young was born in Lubbock, Texas but moved to Norman, Oklahoma shortly after being born to parents Rayford and Candice Young, Rayford was a colligate basketball player himself. Rayford Young played at Texas Tech and himself a decent college career.

Trae Young was a superstar at Norman North High School being named Gatorade Player of the Year in Oklahoma TWICE! in 2016 and 2017. He had one of the top senior years in the entire country, He averaged 42.6 points, 4.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds, all while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. HOLY MOLY the kid averaged over 42 points a game!! not just scored but averaged!

Trae was also named a McDonalds All American and was starting point guard for the West team. Coming out of high school Trae was the ranked the 15th overall prospect and the #2 point guard in the country according to ESPN. The accolades don’t stop there, he was named a first-team All-American by MaxPreps and a second-team All-American by USA Today. He also took first place at the McDonald’s All-American 3-Point Contest and finished as the runner-up at the American Family Insurance High School 3-Point Contest at the Final Four

Oh yeah did I mention he won the gold at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship as part of the United States U18 National Team.

College

When Trae Young stepped foot on the Oklahoma campus he had big dreams and has outperformed anything the coaches thought were possible. This guy just came out from the very first game and has put on an absolute clinic. He is looking to match the legacy’s of former Sooners like Blake Griffen and Buddy Hield, Both of those are Oklahoma Basketball legends. The only difference is that both of those guys spent multiple years at college, Trae, on the other hand, looks like a one-and-done. Every game matters in terms of securing immortality and I’d say Trae is doing a pretty damn good job. As of January 10th, his stats per game are:

Points: 29.2
Assists: 10.1
Rebounds: 3.8
Shooting %: .493
Point shooting %: .389
Steals: 2.0
