Omar Nemeth, 19, has been identified as the Fresno State student who was found dead at a fraternity house on Wednesday, January 3.

Police say they received an emergency call from the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house at Cal State University-Fresno around 2:30 PM. Nemeth was taken to nearby Saint Agnes Medical Center by paramedics where he was declared dead shortly after his arrival.

According to ABC, the 19-year-old Fresno State student was visiting the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house during Winter break when someone handed him a pill of Fentanyl, which is an opioid used as pain medication.

Further reports indicate that the student laid unconscious “on the front porch for hours” until help arrived. Police reportedly blocked off the house with police tape and were seen interviewing a number of fraternity members.

via ABC:

The student’s name is not being released at this time, pending family notification, the university said in a statement.

The school confirmed that the Fresno Police Department is investigating the death and said it would release more information when possible. It was unclear whether the student was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

The frat house’s parking lot was reportedly blocked off with police tape in the wake of the incident as officers interviewed several men on the scene, including some who were wearing the fraternity’s sweatshirts, at around 5 p.m.

The national Delta Sigma Phi fraternity organization sent out a statement, saying “While the investigation continues, it is important to note that this was not connected to any chapter event and occurred during the school’s Winter break.”

This is just the latest fraternity-related death in the past year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities.
