A bomb squad has been dispatched to Terminal B at San Jose Mineta International Airport in California after a suspicious package was found. The package is being described as a backpack.
According to reports, no new passengers are being allowed in Terminal B at this time. All post-security passengers in the terminal are being escorted to other terminals so that they won’t have to be re-screened. Officials said Terminal B primarily affects Alaska and Southwest Air. Travelers were being moved to Terminal A, which is sheltering in place.
San Jose Airport spokeswoman Vicki Day said that the report of the package was made around 10AM local time after a suspicious package was located in a passenger lounge in Terminal B. The San Jose Police Department and the San Jose Fire Department are at the scene with a bomb-squad unit.
Despite San José being the largest city in the Bay Area, the airport is the smallest of the three Bay Area commercial airports in terms of total passengers, serving 10.8 million passengers in 2016.
There are no reports of any further threats, injuries, or fatalities at this time.
