Mariah Carey is an ultra-successful singer-songwriter who has over half a billion dollars in assets. Last night, she fell back into the public’s eye during her performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2018. Besides Carye’s eye-popping dress in the dead of winter, the pop star grabbed the internet’s attention by stopping short in-between songs to ask for a cup of hot tea. She didn’t receive tea in that cold weather, but she was able to push aside Kermit the Frog’s spot and become 2018’s ultimate tea meme…

Carey is no stranger to the spotlight. She’s been on top of her game since her self-titled album Mariah Carey dropped on June 12, 1990. That album stayed at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks.

This pop superstar has been making music for thirty years. But how much money does she have in the bank?

Mariah Carey Net Worth as of 2018: $520 Million

Carey’s net worth rolls in at a staggering $520 million. Throughout her career, she’s sold more than 200 million records worldwide. She is the third-best-selling female artist in the United States, according to RIAA. She has the record for most weeks at the number spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for her 1995 collaboration with Boyz II Men in a song titled “One Sweet Day”. In 2000, she signed a $100 million deal with Virgin Records. After the release of her 2001 critically-panned film and album Glitter, Virgin decided to buy out her contract for $50 million. A year later, she signed a multi-million dollar contract with Island Records. Carey is also highly-decorated when it comes to music awards. She’s the recipient of 5 Grammy Awards, 19 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, and 14 Billboard Music Awards.

It’s worth mentioning that Carey’s song “All I Want For Christmas” earns the singer an estimated £376,000 each year, according to The Daily Mail.

Let’s take a look at Mariah’s road to success…

Mariah Carey was first signed by Columbia Records in 1988. Two years later, she came out with her self-titled album, which stayed atop the Billboard 200 charts for eleven consecutive weeks. In 1991, she won two Grammys, one for Best New Artist, and the other for  Best Female Pop Vocal Performance awards for her single “Vision of Love.” Four singles off her debut album made the number spot on the Billboard Hot 100 number one singles spot, making her the first musical act since Jackson 5 to have four number one singles on the first studio album.

Carey’s next album, Emotions, sold eight million copies worldwide. However, it didn’t live up to the commercial and critical acclaim of her debut album. Her third studio album Music Box debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200. This album went on to become Carey’s all-time best selling album, with 28 million copies sold worldwide.

The R&B singer’s fourth studio album was dedicated entirely to the holiday season. The album is titled Merry Christmas and went on to become the best-selling Christmas album of all time, with 15 million copies sold worldwide.

Carey continued her success with her fifth album, Daydream, which sold 20 million copies worldwide. She released her sixth studio album, Butterfly, in 1997. That album went on to sell 10 million copies worldwide.

In 1999, Mariah Carey received Billboard’s Artist of the Decade Award and the World Music Award for Best-Selling Female Artist of the Millennium. However, Carey’s career took a downward turn with the release of the 2001 film and album Glitter, which was critically-panned in theaters and went on to become her worst selling album of all-time. Her next album Charmbracelet went on to sell 3 million copies worldwide despite largely negative reviews.

Carey’s tenth studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi is considered to be her “comeback” album, with an estimated 12 million copies sold worldwide. Her eleventh album, E=MC², sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.

The legendary pop star joined the American Idol judge panel in 2012, taking home a total $18 million for her participation on the show.

Most recently, Carey appeared on this year’s New Year’s Rocking Eve celebration…
