Last year, Dave Chappelle signed a massive $60 million dollar contract with Netflix to mark his return to the world of stand-up comedy.
The first two specials, The Age Of Spin and Deep In The Heart of Texas, were released back in March to critical acclaim. However, while the stand-ups were predictably excellent, there was only one issue: they felt dated.
Recorded in 2015 and 2016, the first two stand-up specials that Chappelle put up on Netflix dealt with topics that happened in 2015 and 2016, meaning fans would have to wait until the third special, Equanimity, to find out Chappelle’s opinions of the way the world is in 2017.
And if this first trailer is any indication, that’s exactly what we’ll be getting. Discussing the pure idiocy that middle-class American displayed in thinking that President Trump would “fight for them”, Chappelle points out that Trump, in fact, is fighting for him: the rich dude.
Opening with the line “I’ve never had a problem with white people ever in my life, but full disclosure, the poor whites are my least favorite”, this two-minute clip shows Dave detailing his thoughts as he stood in line to vote during the 2016 Presidential election.
It’s a quintessential Dave Chappelle joke that has me rethinking our New Year’s Eve plans — maybe I should just stay in and watch this?
Dave Chappelle: Equanimity will be released on Netflix on December 31.
