Retired Los Angeles Lakers superstar, Kobe Bryant, will officially retire his jersey numbers “8” and “24” during tonight’s half-time show for the Warriors vs. Lakers game. Bryant led a legendary basketball career, capturing five NBA Championships with the Lakers and becoming an 18-time All-Star athlete. In 2008, he was awarded the title of Most Valuable Player Award (MVP). He’s also the youngest player to ever reach 30,000 points in his career, when he was 34 years old. However, LeBron James is slowly creeping up on this record, with over 29,000 career points so far at 32 years old.
For 20 years, Bryant was a star player on the basketball court. He began his career straight out of high school and went on to become one of the best players in LA Lakers history. He’s won four All-Star MVP Awards. He’s also a 2-time Olympic gold medalist, as part of the U.S. national team in the 2008 and 2010 Summer Olympics. He officially retired from the Los Angeles Lakers following the 2015-2016 NBA season. Tonight, he hangs up his jersey for good and retires both of his jersey numbers.
