Winnie Harlow, a 23-year-old Canadian model of Jamaican descent, has risen to be one of the most famous models on Earth right now. Born with the skin pigmentation disease called vitiligo, Harlow was severely bullied as a child, reportedly being called a “cow, zebra, and all manner of other disparaging slurs”. The bullying Harlow received was so severe that she had to change schools numerous times, dropped out of high school and even contemplated committing suicide. Harlow would overcome, though, achieving fame as a contestant on the twenty-first season of America’s Next Top Model — the first Canadian to appear on the show.
Harlow, born in Toronto, Ontario in 1994, was discovered by Tyra Banks, the host of America’s Next Top Model. During the 2014 season — the 21st cycle of the show — Harlow became one of the 14 finalists.
Eventually eliminated from America’s Next Top Model, Harlow began her modeling career by working for the Spain-based clothing brand Desigual. During 2014’s London Fashion Week, Harlow walked for the clothing brand Ashish.
In 2015, Harlow modeled for the Italian clothing brand Diesel, the Spanish and Italian editions of Glamour magazine, was featured in the August/September issue of Complex magazine and was also featured in the August 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan.
In December 2017, Harlow was featured in LOVE Magazine’s advent calendar.
