After the whirlwind year of gaming that occurred in 2017 full of extraordinary titles and breakout hits and with 2018 just around the corner, Gamers all over the world have been ravenous for any more details and glimpses into the future of gaming. Thankfully, Gamers were treated to a massive list of new game announcements coming from some of the world’s best Game Developers exclusively during the live stream of The Game Awards 2017!
During the course of the night, show creator and host Geoff Kieghley took to the stage to announce a boat load of titles coming to Gamers within the next two years! From a ghastly and dark new look at Hideo Kojima’s new game, Death Stranding, to the surprise return of the hit fighting game series, Soul Calibur XI, fans in the audience and around the globe went wild for these new games!
Here are the top 5 announcements from The Game Awards 2017.
1. Death Stranding
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: TBA
After revealing that not only the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and this upcoming game, Hideo Kojima, would be in attendance at The Game Awards but as well as the game’s stars, Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro, fans around the world started frothing at the mouth for the next tease of Death Stranding. Starting off on what seems like a distant planet (?), the trailer shows off Reedus’ character (who’s name may be Sam Porter) as he and his partners are attacked by Cthulhu-esque invisible monsters. The trailer descends into madness as the creatures start attacking and somehow Sam gets a baby in his stomach… the trailer is Kojima at his best and brightest and I’m so extremely excited for Death Stranding!
2. Bayonetta Series Comes To Switch
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: February 16th, 2017
Startling nearly everyone in the crowd, Nintendo stopped by The Game Awards to finally announce the one Wii U port fans keep begging for, Bayonetta 1 & 2! Following the titular gun-heel toting witch, Bayonetta, embark on a fast and frenzied adventure with the first two games in the series! After the disaster of the Wii U, Bayonetta 2 became a game that was destined to die on the dying console, now with the increased popularity of the Nintendo Switch, this witch has one more chance at making the splash she deserves worldwide!
While the collection doesn’t drop until February 16th, 2018; Nintendo couldn’t wait to unveil a trailer announcing that they are currently working on the THIRD entry in the series! Bayonetta 3 is now in active development exclusively for Nintendo Switch and no date has be revealed yet!
3. Soul Calibur VI
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
Release Date: 2018
After almost SIX YEARS without a new Soul Calibur game, Bandai Namco announced during The Game Awards that the beloved historical fighting game would be making its long awaited debut on current gen consoles sometime in 2018! Led by a new development team, guided by Tekken franchise director Harata-san, this new take on the Soul Calibur series will be making its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2018 and the trailer makes it seem like this series is coming back in an effortless and stylish way!
4. In The Valley of Gods
Platforms: TBA
Release Date: 2019
Developers of the hit 2016 indie game, Firewatch, Campo Santo returns to take Gamers on a high energy and death defying journey through “The Valley of Gods”! Playing as two female adventurers, you must find your way through tombs and pyramids to help capture footage that no one could ever believe! Not much else is known about the game but the distinct character designs and the level of detail on the world make this game one to watch out for in 2019!
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The Champion’s Ballad (DLC)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: December 7th, 2017
After taking the world by storm in 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, not only won the honor of being 2017’s Game of the Year but also revealed the last part to its Expansion Pass, The Champion’s Ballad. Letting players back into the open and vast world of Hyrule, players must journey through the land learning the stories behind the four champions who fell before Ganon one hundred years ago as well as more about Princess Zelda and her family. The DLC, which unlocked hours after its announcement, will be full of new quests, weapons and clothing to find! Finally finish the tale of the Champions and destroy Ganon once and for all!
