Her full name is Alessandra Corine Maria Ambrósio. She was born April 11, 1981, in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. She entered her first modeling class at the age of 12. By the time she was 14-years-old, Alessandra was already one of 20 finalists for the 1995 Elite Model Look national competition for Brazil. By 15, she was modeling for Dilson Stein. One of her most notable early modeling work included a cover photo for the Brazilian Elle magazine.
Throughout her long and illustrious career, Ambrosio has appeared in advertising campaigns for fashion companies, such as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dio, and much more. She has also walked the catwalk for companies, such as Prada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Christian Lacroix, and Tommy Hilfiger. She has appeared on many magazine covers, including Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Glamour, and Vogue.
Ambrosio first walked for Victoria’s Secret in 2005 as she participated in the fashion show with an outfit made entirely out of candy. In 2006, she was signed on with the company as the spokesmodel for the Victoria’s Secret “PINK” line. In 2014, she walked the catwalk at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with “the fantasy bra,” bejeweled with rubies, diamonds, amethysts, sapphires, and gold, all worth a combined $2.5 million.
She has appeared in a number of TV shows, including Entourage, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, New Girl, and How I Met Your Mother. She’s also appeared in films such as Casino Royale, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Daddy’s Home, and Daddy’s Home 2.
