On Monday, planet Earth woke up to the news that Charles Manson had died and we all collectively let out a giant sigh of relief.

After 2016 killed dozens of beloved celebrities, everyone needed a death that we could all rally around, and Charles Manson, notorious cult leader, and mass murderer is that type of person that everyone can agree we’re better off without.

It’s rare that mostly (because there are still some nutjobs out there) everyone agrees on something uniformly, so we need to take the minor victories where we can. And Charles Manson leaving this earth is definitely a victory for us all. But while some of us only know of Charles Manson through infamy, there are others that actually crossed his path, such as Bryan Cranston.

Following Manson’s death, Cranston took to Twitter to tell the world about the time he was “within grasp” of the murderous cult leader:

“Hearing Charles Manson is dead, I shuddered. I was within his grasp just one year before he committed brutal murder in 1969. Luck was with me when a cousin and I went horseback riding at the Span Ranch, and saw the little man with crazy eyes whom the other hippies called Charlie.”

According to Cranston, this happened in 1968, which would put him at about 12-years-old. Even now at 61, that memory of Charlie Manson sticks with him.
