Kyle Godfrey-Ryan once worked for The Charlie Rose Show and claims that the broadcaster regularly walked around her naked and repeatedly called her at home, talking to her about his sexual fantasies of seeing her swimming naked in a pool. Godfrey is one of eight women who has come forward with varying degrees of sexual misconduct against Rose. She worked as an assistant for Rose in the mid-2000s and recalls on at least a dozen different occasions in which the broadcaster walked nude in front of her during her time working in one of his New York homes.
Godfrey-Ryan is one of eight women to come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Charlie Rose. However, she is only one of two who have allowed their names to appear in print regarding the allegations. The other woman, Megan Crydt, said that Rose grabbed her thigh during a car ride.
“It feels branded into me, the details of it,” Godfrey-Ryan said.
She spoke with The Washington Post and told that she spoke with a longtime producer of Charlie Rose about his sexual misconduct. Yvette Vega, Rose’s longtime producer, reportedly responded to these accusations by saying “That’s just Charlie being Charlie.”
Vega has since regretted her inaction when women came forward with complaints against Charlie Rose. Vega said, “I should have stood up for them. I failed. It is crushing. I deeply regret not helping them.”
Godfrey-Ryan said of Vegas, “She just made me feel like I was being a dramatic little girl.”
When Rose found out about Godfrey-Ryan reporting his behavior, he reportedly fired her.
In an interview with The Washington Post, she told that Rose would also call her “stupid, incompetent and pathetic.” An unnamed source said, “He repeatedly attacked her in front of other people. He once said that because she hadn’t gotten a college degree she would never amount to anything better than his secretary.”
CBS, PBS, and Bloomberg LP have suspended distribution of the talk-show program Charlie Rose following the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him.
Rose provided a statement to The Post, taking responsibility for the accusations. However, he doesn’t believe all of them to be “accurate.”
“In my 45 years in journalism, I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked,” Rose said in a statement provided to The Post. “Nevertheless, in the past few days, claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues.
“It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.
“I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too. All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives.”
