An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck Iraq this Sunday, even hitting Baghdad, which had been 200 miles away. The epicenter was also 64 miles southeast of the city of As-Sulaymaniyah, near the Iranian border.

The quake was said to have a magnitude of 7.3, although earlier reports said it had been 7.2, according to Daily Mail.

Update: According to The Independent, an official from the Iraqi Meteorology department added that the earthquakes could even be felt across large parts of the country. State television from the country added that it had been felt in a number of cities and villages had been damaged, with various villages out of electricity.

“The quake was felt in several Iranian provinces bordering Iraq … Eight villages were damaged … Electricity has been cut in some villages and rescue teams have been dispatched to those areas,”  a TV news service reported, according to The Independent.

It was originally believed that there were no casualties, although it was later reported that six had died.

As this is a breaking story, more news will be updated as made available.
