Country music star Carrie Underwood recently proved her star power by serving as a host of the CMA Awards. Proving to certainly be a tough cookie, she also recently survived multiple injuries after a fall, even finding to time to thank all of her fans for their support on social media.

The Early Years

Growing up in the small town of Checotah, OK, Underwood first became a singer at her local church at the age of three. A failed record deal, according to Bankrate, cause her to study communications in college, rather than pursue a career as a singer, at least initially.

2004-2006

While a college senior, she became entered the television singing competition, American Idol, for the 2005 season. She won first place on the show, complete with a million-dollar recording contract. Her first single, “Inside Your Heaven,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her first album, “Some Hearts,”  also became a best-selling country album.

2007-2008

Underwood performed the “Star Spangled Banner” at Game 3 of the 2007 World Series. She eventually became the youngest person ever inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. The same year, she would host Country Music Association Awards alongside Brad Paisley, and it would not be her last chance at the job.

2009-Present

Since her debut, she’s had success with songs like “Two Black Cadillacs,” “Cowboy Casanova” and “Last Name.” Underwood toyed with an acting career in 2010 with an appearance on How I Met Your Mother; she later appeared in the starring role of Maria von Trapp in NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music. She also made her film debut in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer. When the Country Music Association announced she would be a co-host for the 2017 CMA Awards showcase, it had been her 10th time with the job.
