Depth. At some point or another, every fantasy owner is forced to rely on their benchwarmers. Whether this occurs because of a serious injury to a starter or because of a dreaded bye week, having a strong bench is paramount to succeeding in season-long fantasy leagues. Of course, productive bench players can change every week as there are many flukey success stories and very few underrated players that are worth holding onto for the long haul. While it may seem risky to suggest that a team that has a mediocre quarterback in Blake Bortles could have a sleeper wideout, the Jaguars actually have a such a player who has been immensely productive in his last three games.

Team: Jacksonville Jaguars
Position: Wide Receiver
Percent Owned On Fantasy Teams: (Yahoo Fantasy): 57%
Fantasy Points Total Thru Week 9 (Half PPR): Projected: 77.12 Actual: 68.50

While Marqise Lee may not be a superstar receiver, his steady hands (14% drop rate, 2nd amongst receivers) and separation abilities (1.78 yards of separation per target, 18th amongst receivers) makes him an appealing weapon for Bortles to utilize. With 28 targets in his last three games, Lee has quickly become a reliable, high-volume asset that can make plays downfield (13.7 yards per receptions). As a result, Lee has garnered at least 70 receiving yards in his last three games while catching at least four passes in those contests.

With a target share of 24.9% (14th amongst receivers), Lee has been able to effectively and consistently display his yards after the catch capabilities (3.4 yards after the catch, 11th amongst receivers). However, the most pertinent and intriguing statistic for fantasy owners to absorb is Lee’s uptick in average fantasy points per game. Through four weeks, Lee was averaging a paltry less than five fantasy points per game. However, through nine weeks, Lee’s fantasy production has exploded to an average of over 20 fantasy points per game. While his ceiling will not always be this high, his potential to go off for big yardage should be coveted by any fantasy owners that are looking for an explosive flex play.

Although the Jaguars are not the best passing team in the league, it’s becoming more and more evident that Borltes has potentially found a reliable security blanket in Lee. While the fleet of foot wideout will inevitably have off games from time to time, his high-ceiling scoring wise should at least be considered if you’re looking for a weapon that scores big points quickly.
