With it nearly being a law that every marriage proposal has to end up a viral video, people can and will do all sorts of strange things to get that special someone to say “I do!” Even celebrities are getting into the act with help random Average Joes have their marriage proposal be something for the headlines.
They came for the book show and stayed for the show
Actor Tom Hanks was in the Austin, Texas area to promote his new book, Uncommon Type: Some Stories. During a question and answer session, Hanks claimed at one point that he no longer wanted to answer questions, wanting someone else in the audience to answer a question instead.
Taking out a piece of paper, Hanks claimed a man in the audience named Ryan McFarling, had wanted to ask a question to a woman in the audience named Nikki Young. As the couple was invited to come on stage, McFarling knelt down, pulled out a ring and asked Young, “Nikki, will you marry me?,” according to People.
An onstage kiss was immortalized in a photo
Another person at the event captured the couple, as they gave each other a kiss onstage, with the caption, “A wedding proposal happens at the @tomhanks reading @texasbookfest just now. #love.”
This is not the first time Hanks has been involved with another couple’s happy day. Last year, he made headlines for a story in which he surprised a couple during their wedding shoot.
