Sony

Teased to the public and media as Sony’s “second half of E3”, the Japanese electronic powerhouse held a “Media Briefing” at this years Paris Games Week today to show off more looks at their upcoming games for the PlayStation 4. Starting the morning off with a pre-show that announced 21 brand new PS4 and PlayStation VR games swiftly led into the main show press conference which gave Gamers new looks at heat-pounding new games coming to the consoles!

From the gripping and tense new look at Quantic Dream’s next PS4 title, Detroit: Become Human, to the jaw-dropping and stunning surprise trailer for Sucker Punch’s new title, Ghosts of Tsushima; Sony decimated the stage at Paris Game Week with the upcoming titles that the company has prepared for their fans. While the show may have been hyped too much with promises of it being “bigger than E3”, it offered an amazing and inciting look into the future of the world’s best video game console.

Check out our picks for the Top 5 Must-See games from Sony’s Paris Games Week conference:

Ghosts of Tsushima

Developer: Sucker Punch
Platform:
PlayStation 4
Release Date:
TBA

Set in the year 1274, Sucker Punch’s new IP takes place during the time of the Samurai in Japan and follows the tale of one man’s journey to free the Japanese people from the invasion of the Mongol Empire. Using unconventional skills and methods, it’s up to you to stop this invasion and free the people of Tsushima in this upcoming open world game. Sucker Punch, known for their work developing the Infamous series is hard at work to make this game as realistic and as fun as possible! Word is that Sucker Punch has been working on this game for a while, but with no release window attached to the end of the trailer… expect it to launch sometime after 2018.

God of War

Developer: Sony Santa Monica Studio
Platform:
PlayStation 4
Release Date:
Early 2018

Releasing sometime in Early 2018, Sony Santa Monica’s soft reboot of the God of War franchise looks to humanize the iconic Sony character pitting him in a new journey alongside his mysterious son, whom we have no background on. The trailer shown off at the Paris Games Week press conference showed fans a section of the games campaign in which Kratos and his son must solve a puzzle in order to escape the room their trapped in. Obviously the trailer was full of violence and gore but notably was way more toned than previous games in the franchise.

Detroit: Become Human

Developer: Quantic Dream
Platform:
PlayStation 4
Release Date:
Spring 2018

One of the most surprising trailers shown during the show was the latest trailer for Quantic Dream’s next “interactive storytelling” game, Detroit: Become Human. Set in the real city of Detroit, Michigan the game follows multiple story lines all involving the uprising of an android revolution. How the events of the story are fully left to the actions players make in the decisions they are faced with. This new trailer showed off a heart-pounding and tense scene featuring android Kara and human child Alice as they must escape Alice’s abusive and drunk father. Due to the many branching paths of the game, anything is possible in these scenes including death. The game is set to launch sometime in Spring 2018 exclusively for the PlayStation 4!

Spider-Man

Developer: Insomniac Games
Platform:
PlayStation 4
Release Date:
 2018

Insomniac’s next game follows one of the world’s most iconic superheroes, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Set in its own universe apart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Insomniac’s Spider-Man game follows a seasoned Peter Parker as he tries to blend his personal life with his secret identity of being New York’s protector, Spider-Man. This new trailer showed off our first glimpse of the game’s story as Peter Parker must team up with close acquaintances and new friends to take down the newest threat to come to New York City, Mr. Negative! The game still doesn’t have a release date but Sony attached a 2018 tag to the end of the trailer!

The Last of Us Part II

Developer: Naughty Dog
Platform:
PlayStation 4
Release Date:
 TBA

Naughty Dog’s HIGHLY anticipated sequel to one of the most acclaimed titles of all time finally showed off a new look at The Last of Us Part II with a heart-pounding and an intense trailer showing off new characters in this universe. Starting with the attempted  hanging of an unnamed woman, three “cult-like” people are picked off by two people coming to stop the hanging. Not much is said but the trailer shows a pretty brutal attack on one of the rescuers, I honestly had to look away for a second. New questions have been raised especially due to the trailer’s dialogue hinting at two factions rising up and clashing with each other.  The game still has no release date but all signs point to a 2019 release.
