After taking Game 3 at home behind a solid pitching performance from Lance McCullers, the Astros will look to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series behind the arm of Charlie Morton. The lineup for the Astros has come alive in its last two games and looks poised to put a stranglehold on this series.
Charlie Morton, the 33-year-old pitcher from New Jersey, will make his first World Series start in his ninth season in the MLB. In Morton’s last start, he shutout the Yankees in game 7 of the ALCS over five innings. Morton possesses a variety of pitches that could frustrate the potent Dodgers’ lineup if he can locate them properly.
On the mound for the Dodgers will be 26-year-old Alex Wood. This season, Wood was unbelievable and went 16-3 as a result. However, Wood struggled in his lone playoff start this season after allowing three runs in less than five innings against the Chicago Cubs. That start was ten days ago so one has to wonder how sharp Wood will look following the abnormally long rest.
This game, for all intents and purposes, is a must-win game for the Dodgers. If the Dodgers go down 3-1 in the series, then I cannot see them beating this Astros team three straight times. In my opinion, if the Dodgers lose tonight, the Astros will win the World Series.
