Winona Ryder has been acting for longer than most of the people reading this have been alive.
Making her film debut in the film Lucas, Ryder went on to achieve widespread fame for her role as Lydia Deetz, a goth teenager in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice .
During the 1990’s, Ryder appeared in the coming of age drama Mermaids, for which she earned a Golden Globe Award nomination. She also starred alongside Johnny Depp in Burton’s classic Edward Scissorhands. After he role in Edward Scissorhands, Ryder began a highly publicized relationship with Johnny Depp.
Throughout the later 1990’s, Ryder would appear in films such as Reality Bites, Alien Resurrection, Celebrity, and Girl, Interrupted, which she also executive-produced. In 2000, Ryder received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring her legacy in the film industry.
In 2001, Ryder was arrested in Beverly Hills, California on shoplifting charges as she was accused of stealing $5,500 worth of designer clothes and accessories at a Saks Fifth Avenue store. During the trial, Ryder was accused of using drugs, including oxycodone, diazepam, and Vicodin.
After appearing alongside Adam Sandler in Mr. Deeds, Ryder took a hiatus from acting until 2006. She would later appear in films such as Star Trek.
It was in 2017, though, that Ryder experienced a true resurgence, bursting back onto the scene with an excellent performance in Netflix’s splash hit Stranger Things. For her role as Joyce Byers in the supernatural-horror series, Wyder earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations.
With over thirty years in the industry, Ryder is as talented and beautiful as she was when she first broke into Hollywood, as she shows no signs of slowing down.
