Robert Mathis, a former Indianapolis Colts defensive end and one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise, was arrested for drunk driving on the morning of Tuesday, October 24.

Mathis, 36, was arrested at 12:09 AM for OWI: Endangering a person in Carmel, Indiana. Mathis retired from the NFL as a player last year, but was added to the coaching staff as a pass rush consultant.

According to jail records, Mathis was held in the Hamilton County Jail in Indiana on Tuesday morning on an initial charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Colts spokesman Avis Roper issued a statement on the incident:

“We are aware of the incident involving Robert Mathis last night,” Roper said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Mathis, who was drafted in 2003, spent 13 seasons with the Colts, racking up 123 sacks. A six-time Pro Bowler, Mathis won Super Bowl XLI with Peyton Manning and the Colts in 2006 over the Chicago Bears.
