It’s hard to imagine a better way to start this NBA season than with a matchup between the two teams that are each favored so heavily to lead their conference. The game between the Boston Celtics and defending conference champions the Cleveland Cavaliers will take place this Tuesday night at 8:00 PM.
After a lot of offseason moves and acquisitions from both these teams the outcome of this matchup is certainly unexpected and something you definitely do not want to miss. In a trade between the Celtics and the Cavs, Cleveland sent over their superstar point guard in Kyrie Irving to Boston in exchange for fellow point guard Isiah Thomas along with Small Forward Jae Crowder and Center Ante Zizic. Not to mention a 2018 first round pick that came shortly after news of the original player deal.
The trade, that took many by surprise, breaks up of the league’s most dynamic duos– Lebron James and Kyrie Irving. Kyrie’s 2016 average of 21 points per game will now be replaced with Isiah Thomas’ 19 points per game but not without some help from other offseason acquisitions. While they may be considered past their prime, Derrick Rose and Dwayne Wade will certainly make an impact whether they are starting or coming off the bench. The combined scoring power of these three guys with the defensive ability of the two new big guys in Crowder and Zizic who averaged 6 rebounds per game in the European League.
The Celtics, on the other hand, look to start their season with a starting five led by Irving. As the teams top projected player, Irving will most likely look to Gordon Hayward as his second-in-command making a player relationship with similarities to that of Lebron and Kyrie’s. Hayward averaged 21 points per game last season along with a little over 5 rebounds.
