Police are currently investigating an active shooting situation reported at Howard University in Washington DC. Early Tuesday afternoon, police received an anonymous tip of an active shooter at Howard University.
Update: No threat was found at Howard University after two reports of an active shooter on campus.
“We’re on the scene @HowardU for the report of an active shooter,” the DC Police Department posted on Twitter. “So far nothing confirmed. Take precautions if in the area.”
The report was issued from the 2400 block of 6th Street, NW. Street are closed from on 6th Street from Fairmont Street, NW to College Street, NW, as well as on Howard Place from Georgia Avenue to 4th Street, NW.
Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick tweeted “Police are currently conducting a sweep of campus. All students & staff should stay in place & shelter in place until further notification.”
Howard University tweeted “This afternoon, we were anonymously notified of a potential shooter on campus. We took the call seriously and police are investigating.”
Another tweet from the university said, “Because the safety of our students and staff are our number one priority, the Admin Bldg has been evacuated.”
The Hilltop, Howard University’s student newspaper, tweeted about an “alleged threat on @HowardU campus. Police evacuated A-Building. 4th Street has been closed down.”
Metropolitan Police tweeted, “We’re on the scene @HowardU for the report of an active shooter, but nothing has been confirmed so far. Take precautions if in the area.”
Howard University is a private, historically black college founded on March 2, 1867.
