Earlier this month, we discussed the October Google Live Stream announcing their new products, including the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Now that they are on the verge of being released to the public, this Friday, October 19, reviews have been coming out, and we know what to expect.

It comes in two sizes, and I don’t think ‘XL’ is the small one!

The Pixel 2 comes in two sizes. First, a 5-inch phone with a squared-off screen, complete with large bezels. Second, a 6-inch version with curved concerns, and smaller bezels. The smaller Pixel 2 costs $649, for the small model, and $849, for the larger model, with an additional $100 premium for expanded storage. Beyond its size, however, the two phones are said to be otherwise identical.

The phones are said to come complete with a textured finish that covers most of their antenna lines, making them easier to grip. Reportedly, many people have compared the feel of the phone to plastic, although it is made with Gorilla Glass and aluminum.

The smaller one comes in three colors, with the larger one coming in only two. For both, you can purchase the phone in either black or white, but you can also purchase the smaller phone in a bluish-gray color, as well. Each color is also said to have a different texture and finish, with a few accent colors on their power buttons.

A pro & con list about the new phones

A further change has also been made to the familiar glass shade placed on the back of the phone for improved wireless signals, being smaller this year, presumably to make it less prone to scratching than previous models.

One important change is said to be the removal of a headphone jack, although it is hoped that doing so will help improve the phone’s Bluetooth performance. The phones both have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, complete with 4GB of RAM.

Ultimately, The Verge described both phones as “great phones, but they’re not flawless.” Giving the XL phone a score of 8.5, it said its better features are the incredible camera, great speakers, and Best Android experience; its lesser features are having muted colors on-screen, the lack of the headphone jack, and no customization of its camera features. The second phone received the same score with a similar pro & con list, except with the huge bezels around the screen taking the place of the muted colors on the lesser feature list.
