Halloween is reaching around the corner and a lot of people are getting their costumes ready, whether you are going to a party, dressing up for the trick-or-treaters, or going trick-or-treating yourself! Why, I’m sure that there are some of you out there who just want to stay in the house and wear a costume just for the fun of it. Fashionista decided to take a look at Pinterest and Yandy.com to see what costumes are already set to be trending this year, so you can take a look and see what you can wear to be part of the in-crowd this year. Alternatively, find out what’s going to popular so you can think of something different to be unique; who wants to show up at a party with someone wearing the same thing? Especially when costume contest are on the line! Years past, you wanted to be spooky, kooky, or other ooky, but now people want to be the characters they’ve seen in their favorite show and movies.
Big Little Lies
The popular HBO show, Big Little Lies, is already inspiring Halloween costumes this year, with Pinterest having a 64% jump from last year when it came to pins. An Audrey Hepburn party featured in the show’s final episode, especially a Breakfast at Tiffany’s-inspired number Shailene Woodley’s character wears, is especially blamed for this. In other words, if you haven’t seen the show, just dress up like Holly Golightly!
Star Wars
With over 180K pins already being saved on Pinterest, it would seem that Disney isn’t going to regret buying Star Wars anytime soon. Even with new characters coming out from the more recent films to choose from, it would also seem like a lot of people want to dress as Princess Leia to honor Carrie Fisher.
Baywatch
The recent film reboot of Baywatch, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron, has sparked interest in one-piece lifeguard costumes this year for Halloween. Pinterest had a 147% increase from users when compared to last year. That said, I don’t want to tell you how to live your life, but I wouldn’t exactly go trick-or-treating in a bathing suit, even if it is a one-piece, so I’d save this idea for some nice costume party.
Game of Thrones
In all fairness, girls always liked to dress as princesses, so it makes sense to take inspiration from this fantasy series people won’t stop talking about. And I do mean girls, even with the male characters, if this Jon Snow-inspired “Sexy Northern Queen” costume from Yandy is anything to go by. Interest on Pinterest increased by 280% from 2016.
Stranger Things
In 2016, Stranger Things costumes were the most popular searched for costume for Halloween last year, according to Lyst. It only makes sense that it would be still be popular for 2017, complete with a 40% from last year. Millie Bobby Brown’s character Eleven seems to be the most popular choice.
Rick and Morty
Pinterest already has 10K pins for this duo, and we do mean duo. It would seem that people are really aiming to make it a couple’s costume for both Rick and Morty. For people who want to go solo and still reference this show, apparently “Pickle Rick” is a recommended choice.
Beauty and the Beast
The recent live-action film has been an inspiration on Pinterest, with a huge 680% increase from last year. It helps that the title alone makes a good choice for couple costumes. Even so, some people want to go as some of the other characters, like Gaston (or his three fangirls!)
Wonder Woman
So far, 60K pins have been saved on Pinterest for Wonder Woman costumes this year, and the Gal Gadot film is to thank for that. It helps that for many Americans, she is already the first female superhero that they could think of.
Batman
Superheroes in general are going to be a popular choice this year, according to NJ.com, and the ever-loving, harder-to-kill-than-Rasputin meme that is Batman is also going to be a popular choice this year. It’s also tempting to think some of the older trick-or-treaters want to pay special homage to the late Adam West this year, as seen above.
Witch
Still, as NJ.com suggests, you just can’t do wrong with something scary, and witches will still be a popular choice for Halloween this year. Considering The Wizard of Oz and Harry Potter, around half of the villains in the Disney animated canon, and that upcoming Suspiria remake, it is safe to say that there are a lot of sisters of Salem to choose from…and witches will keep their place in pop culture for a long time.
