Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in a middle-class suburb and was an introverted loner when he was young. Ford was pretty popular with girls, but he experienced his share of bullying in school. He endured the painful aftermath of bullying as much as he could, but he grew weary and fought back. When he was young, he was not into acting nor was he fascinated with entertainment.

After high school, he studied English and philosophy at Ripon College in Wisconsin. Things took a turn for the worst when Ford was expelled just days before graduation because he did not finish his thesis. Even though he did not do well in school, Ford found love. He met his first wife, Mary Marquardt, and moved to Hollywood. It was at that time that he signed up as a contract player with Columbia, which paid $150 a week. Afterwards, he moved to Universal Studios. Ford’s first role was in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round, and though he did well, the studio executives failed to recognize his talents. One even said that Ford would never make it in the business.

Given the failed movies of his past, it wasn’t until in 1977 that he had his big breakthrough. After appearing in one of George Lucas’ films, Ford took the role of Han Solo in Star Wars. His enigmatic role as a likeable rogue in the film heightened his profile in Hollywood. The sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, propelled Ford to become one of Hollywood’s newest stars.

In the same era, he appeared in several other films and rocked the box office, taking on a role from the high-profile Steven Spielberg. His role in Indiana Jones as the resourceful archaeologist amplified Harrison’s presence in Hollywood. He strengthened his career with a role in Blade Runner, which was directed by Ridley Scott.
