Gosling got his start as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club, alongside other future mega stars such as Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. As a child actor he also had roles in the television shows Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps. He later played the title character in the tv series Young Hercules, and later had a small role in the hit movie Remember the Titans.

Starting in 2001, Gosling would begin to masterfully transition from child actor to critical darling, with his performance as a jewish neo-Nazi in the film The Believer. A few years later he appeared in the romantic drama the The Notebook, which cemented his status as a major heartthrob. In 2006 Gosling earned some of the best reviews of his career for his performance as a drug-addicted Middle School teacher in the film Half Nelson, culminating in his first Academy Award nomination, for best actor.

Following a well-received performance in 2007’s Lars and the Real Girl, Gosling took a hiatus from acting for a few years. Starting in 2010, he returned to Hollywood with a slew of performances in critically acclaimed films such as Blue ValentineDrive, and The Place Beyond The Pines. During this period he would also star in the hit romantic-comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, in which his shirtless scene would further bolster his heartthrob credentials.

Gosling’s first effort as a movie director, 2014’s Lost River, was panned by critics, and ended up being a rare black spot on his otherwise strong filmography. Fortunately, Gosling managed to rebound quickly. In 2015 he had a role in the ensemble film The Big Short, which went on to be nominated for Best Picture. In 2016, Gosling starred in the critically acclaimed buddy comedy The Nice Guys, from Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black, and earned his second Academy Award nomination for his role in La La Land alongside his Crazy, Stupid, Love co-star Emma Stone. Next up, Gosling’s role in the long-awaited sequel to Blade Runner should further cement his status as one of Hollywood’s golden boys of the moment.
