UFC Schedule October 2017: Upcoming UFC Fights & Events

The UFC is expected to have three important events in the month of October. UFC 216 as well as UFC Fight Nights 118 and 119 will keep UFC fans highly entertained as high quality fighters will be going at it in the Octagon. October will be filled with UFC veterans who are looking to relive their past glory and potentially become title contenders once more. Fighters like Lyoto Machida, Glover Teixeira and Fabricio Werdum will all try to rebound from losses in their previous fights and become contenders once again. This month’s schedule also includes various fighters that may have been flying under the radar in the early parts of their careers. Fighters like Kevin Lee and Trevor Smith will have another opportunity to become household names in the MMA community. Overall, this month’s schedule looks pretty solid.


UFC 216: Ferguson vs. Lee

Date: Saturday, October 7, 2017

The main event for this card is a Lightweight contest between two title contenders in Tony Ferguson (22-3) and Kevin Lee (16-2). Both fighters are in the midst of large winning streaks with Ferguson winning nine straight fights compared to Lee’s five. Both fighters are extremely gifted on the ground which should lead to very strategic wrestling and grabbling from both sides. Expect a highly competitive and entertaining fight between these two contenders.

The other newsworthy fight in this card is a Heavyweight contest between Derrick Lewis (18-5) and Fabricio Werdum (21-7-1). Both fighters will look to end their current losing streaks and it should lead to a very entertaining fight. Lewis was knocked out by Mark Hunt in his last fight while Werdum lost in a decision to Alistair Overeem. Werdum, the former UFC Heavyweight champion, is the favorite in this fight but Lewis’ knockout power is a factor that Werdum should not take lightly. This fight should be short and sweet. Expect this fight to end before round three.


UFC Fight Night 118: Smith vs. Emeev

UFC Fight Night 118 features a ton of underrated fighters that most common UFC fans might not know. However, this card is full of future contenders who currently boast very impressive records. The card itself features six fight at this moment in time but that could potentially change in the future. The main event for the card is a Middleweight fight between Trevor Smith (15-7) and Ramazan Emeev (15-3). Both fighters are submission specialists so this fight should involve a constant struggling for position on the ground. Expect this fight to be rather though but highly strategic.


UFC Fight Night 119: Brunson vs. Machida

Date: Saturday, October 28, 2017
Time: 10:00 P.M. ET
Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil

This UFC Fight Night contains a fight card with six fights currently listed and includes several UFC veterans. This fight card includes Glover Teixeira (26-6) who is trying to rebound after a five round defeat in his last fight. Teixeira will have to fight Misha Cirkunov (13-3) who is a relativeness unknown. However, Cirkunov is a submission specialist so Teixeira will have to be extremely careful.

The main event for Fight Night 119 will be a Middleweight fight between Derek Brunson (17-5) and Lyoto Machida (22-7). Machida, the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, is currently on a two fight losing streak and is looking to return to his winning ways. Brunson is coming off of a first round knockout victory against Dan Kelly (13-2) and is looking to build on that momentum to potentially become a contender in the not so distant future. It is worth mentioning that this fight will take place in Machida’s home country of Brazil where he has won four out of five fights in his career. This fight should be a very tight contest where both fighters can end it quickly due to their knockout power.
