Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a record-breaking Emmy-award winning actress, who announced some rather unfortunate news on Thursday, Tweeting out that she has breast cancer. The 56-year-old star is mostly-known for her former role as Elaine Benes on the hit NBC sitcom Seinfeld from 1989 to 1998, as well as her most recent starring role as former President Selina Meyer on the HBO political-comedy Veep (a show which has single-handily earned Dreyfus six consecutive Emmys).

On Thursday, Dreyfus took to Twitter to share her diagnosis. “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” Louis-Dreyfus, 56, wrote. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

Dreyfus reportedly found out that she has breast cancer a day after winning her sixth consecutive Emmy award, according to a HBO rep.

She has spent over thirty years in the limelight, from Saturday Night to Seinfeld to Veep, and beyond. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the only member of the Seinfeld foursome to break away from that “Seinfeld curse.” Unfortunately, she must now overcome something even greater than superstition. But let’s celebrate her life, instead of dwelling too much about what might happen or is already happening. Let’s look at Julia’s road to success and riches…

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Net Worth as of 2017: $200 Million

Julia has earned a whole lot of money during her thirty plus years in front of the camera. She’s taken in a total of $200 million, and has earned herself eleven Emmy awards, seven Screen Actors Guild Awards, five American Comedy Awards, and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and one Golden Globe. But how did she become so successful?

Julia started off on Saturday Night Live, performing in various sketches from 1982-1985. At the time, she became the youngest female cast member in the history of the series. After her time on SNL, she appeared in several films, including National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Soul Man, and the Woody Allen-directed Hannah and Her Sisters.

Dreyfus hit gold when she was cast to play Elaine Benes on a show “about nothing” called Seinfeld.  She was the wacky ex-girlfriend/full-time buddy of Jerry Seinfeld, and became an enduring part of pop culture as a result. She’s won multiple awards and earned numerous nominations for her role as Elaine, including one Primetime Emmy award, one Golden Globe award, five American Comedy Awards, and seven additional Emmy nominations.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus struggled to maintain relevancy like many of her Seinfeld co-stars. She made guest appearances on shows such as The Simpsons and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She also provided her voice for the Disney Pixar’s film A Bug’s Life.

In 2005, Dreyfus found her next big break on a CBS sitcom called The Adventures of Old Christine, effectively providing her career new life. The show lasted until 2010, and received critical acclaim and decently high ratings.

Julia’s character didn’t stop with Old Christine. She continued her career to The White House…well, at least the fictional kind on HBO. In 2012, she received the role of Selina Meyer; a vice president in season one, and the real-deal president by season three.

HBO will air its seventh and final season of Veep in 2018.

In the meantime, hopefully Ms. Dreyfus can recover from breast cancer and prolong her career with many more spectacular years in front of the camera.
