Zachary Adams, 33, was found guilty of murder and aggravated rape in the 2011 slaying of a Tennessee nursing student. Adams was accused of kidnapping, raping, and murdering the 20-year-old Holly Bobo. He may face the death penalty for his crimes.
Holly Bobo originally went missing from her Parsons home on April 13, 2011. Her remains were uncovered roughly 3 ½ years later in woods in Decatur Count by two ginseng hunters, about 100 miles southwest of Nashville.
Jurors began deliberating this murder and rape case by Thursday afternoon, the tenth day of the trial. The judge, C. Creed McGinley, had previously moved the trial to Hardin County in search of an unbiased jury.
The brother of the deceased, Clint testified that on the day of Holly Bobo’s disappearance, he saw an unidentified man, dressed in camouflage, leading his sister into the woods. Prosecutors argue that Adams was mixed-up in the “dark world” of methamphetamine and morphine when he and two other men abducted, kidnapped, raped, and murdered the young Holly Bobo, and later disposing of her remains in the woods.
In his closing argument Thursday, prosecutor Paul Hagerman credited the testimony of star witness Jason Autry for proving Adams’ guilt in court. Autry testified that he assisted Hagerman in moving what he believed to be Holly Bobo’s body wrapped in a blanket. Bobo was reportedly still alive at the time, and Autry acted as lookout while Hagerman is said to have shot the 20-year-old by the Tennessee river.
“She was never gonna come out of that blanket alive, not a chance,” Hagerman said. “[Autry] knew just how guilty he was, just how guilty they all were – and for years, he kept his secret.”
