Cardi B’s rise to fame has been nothing short of astounding.
A year ago, most of the country had never even heard her name, and now she’s on the verge of having the #1 song in the country.
Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar, is an American hip hop artist who was born and raised in the Bronx. Cardi began her career as an exotic dancer and began to gain a following through Instagram and her “no filter attitude”.
Following her viral fame, Cardi became a regular cast member of the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015. In November 2015, Cardi B made her musical debut, alongside Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan, on Jamaican reggae fusion singer Shaggy’s remix to the latter’s single “Boom Boom”.
In February 2017, Cardi signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic Records. On June 16, 2017, Atlantic Records released Cardi B’s commercial debut single, titled “Bodak Yellow”, via digital distribution. During Summer 17, Cardi B appeared on the cover of The Fader’s Summer Music issue.
