Market Street Suspicious Package: Full Story of Potential Bomb Threat

San Fransisco police are advising people to avoid the area of Market & $th Street due to a suspicious package. A San Fransisco bomb squad is on the scene.

The San Fransisco police department has issued a “shelter in place” urging pedestrians and vehicles in the area of Market between 4th and 5th Street to stay inside and away from windows and to avoid the area if possible.

EOD is en route to the scene.

Nearby transit is delayed to due to the investigation. Market Street service is delayed near Market and 4th due to police activity at Powell Station. Passengers should expect reroutes.

According to the SFMTA, Muni Metro has been disrupted in the area. Inbound trains from West Portal will switch back at Castro back to outbound service. Furthermore, passengers at the Montgomery and Embarcadero stops also stuck.

The San Fransisco BART system says that explosives experts have x-rayed the suspicious package at Powell Station.

The BART system is also delayed, as trains are not stopping at Powell St. in the SFO, Millbrae, Daly City and East Bay directions due to the activity.

Passengers should expect reroutes and delays for street-level bus routes as well. Trains are still not allowed to enter the Powell station at this time.

Twitter user Cheeky Tubemouse said she is “trapped in a store on Market Street” do to the suspicious package.

Similarly, Twitter user Morgan Davenport said after she exited a store, a police officer ushered her off the street because of the bomb threat.
