Longtime TV star Jay Thomas passed away today at the age of 69. He was a modern day renaissance man who was a comedian, an actor, a radio talk show host. He starred in the TV movie Killling Mr. Griffin. But he’s best known for his work on sitcoms, co-starring in programs such as Murphy Brown, Mort & Mindy, Cheers, and much more.
On Thursday, August 24, 2017, Thomas passed from cancer. He had battling with the disease for a while, and it finally caught up to him. He’s survived by his son J. T. Harding, a country music song writer and lead singer of the band JTX.
Thomas began his career on Mort & Mindy in 1979 and has appeared in a litany on TV series every since, whether in guest roles or on the main cast. He won an Emmy twice for his role in Murphy Brown. One for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 1990, while the other award was Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1991.
