Hurricane Harvey 2017 School Closures: Full List Of School Closings

Hurricane Harvey is expected to move up from the Gulf of Mexico into Texas on Friday. As a result, many southeast Texas schools have cancelled classes on Friday and into the weekend, some all the way up to Monday. The Houston area is expected to be hit hard with roughly 20 inches of rain and winds as high as 80 mph.

Hurricane Harvey 2017: Full List Of School Closings

The Houston Independent School District has cancelled classes in all their schools. Four other local districts and universities have followed suit.

This list will be updated by the minute. Stick around while it is updated.

Houston ISD: At 2 P.M. Friday, this district will dismiss all employees and cancel all athletic activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday, including practices, scrimmages and scheduled games.

The University of Houston: After 1 P.M. on Friday, all classes and programming will be cancelled, according to an emergency alert from the university. Over the weekend, officials will determine whether or not there will be school on Monday.

University of St. Thomas: All classes will be cancelled from noon Friday to Sunday.

Cy-Fair ISD: On Friday, officials in this school district will meet to determine whether or not class will be cancelled on the first day of school this Monday.

Fort Bend ISD: Schools will be closed in this district from Friday to Saturday.

Aldine ISD: All after school and weekend activities will be cancelled, starting on Friday.

Klein ISD: All after-school activities cancelled on Friday. However, they haven’t cancelled classes yet. District officials will decide whether or not to cancel classes on Thursday evening at 8 P.M.

Galveston ISD: All Friday night and Saturday activities have been cancelled. Crenshaw Elementary & Middle schools will be closed this Friday. The school year will start this Monday.

Texas City ISD: All classes to be cancelled on Friday. District officials will let parents know by 2 P.M. on Sunday whether or not schools will be open on Monday.

La Porte ISD: Schools will be closed Friday and Monday.

Crosby ISD: Schools will be dismissed early. All district activities scheduled for Friday have been cancelled. At 11:15 A.M., high schools and middle schools will release their students, while pre-schools will let out at 12:15 P.M.

Deer Park ISD: This district will have schools release their students early on Friday: elementary Schools (1 P.M.), junior high schools (1:30 P.M.), and high schools (2 P.M.).

Barbers Hill ISD: This district cancelled all after-school activities on Friday. However, classes will remain open.

San Jacinto College’s North, South and Central campuses: All classes will be cancelled from Friday at 1:30 P.M. through Sunday. All activities will be cancelled this weekend, including on-campus registration.

Huffman ISD: All SAT exams scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. A volleyball tournament will also be cancelled. The school year is set to kick off in this district on Monday.

Pearland ISD: This district has cancelled all after-school and weekend activities, in light of Hurricane Harvey. They’ll make a decision by Sunday at 2 P.M. whether or not classes will resume on Monday.
