Welcome to another edition of Esports news! At Gamescom 2017, Blizzard revealed some huge news to their fans. They’ve announced a new character in Heroes of the Storm, a new map in Overwatch, and more. Plus, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground is continuing to break records, and it hasn’t even been released yet.
What’s Going On With Overwatch?
Overwatch just released a new animated short called Junker Town: The Plan, which focuses on bandit’s Junkrat and Road Hog in their native land of Australia. Blizzard also released a new map for Overwatch called Junkertown, which be hitting servers soon according to game director and Vice President of Blizzard Entertainment Jeff Kaplan.
Kaplan said, “Junkertown is an escort map located in the harsh and unforgiving Australian outback.”
Junkertown looks like a blast! Literally…
What’s happenin’ with Heroes of the Storm?
Heroes of the Storm Call of Kelthuzad is coming soon. Lich from World of Warcraft will be joining this game. His talents and role will be revealed on Wednesday of this week. A few months back, the list of characters from the upcoming Heroes of the Storm was leaked. So far, all of the new characters to be revealed were first shown in an online leak. The characters, who were in the link, that have been confirmed for the game are Stukov, Garosh, and Kel Thuzad, and of course Lich. If the list is completely true, the next name to be revealed will be Firebat.
PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Is Breaking Records
After a stream preview in March, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground has been breaking records with 5 million players and 500 thousand concurrent players, which is the most for any non-Valve game. They broke another milestone today, with over 8 million copies of the game sold. This may be one of the biggest hits of the year.
The game’s developer/publisher Bluehole Studios said that they’ll exclusively release PlayerUnknown’s Battleground on the XBox One. The developer has confirmed that this title will not be released for PlayStation 4.
Bluehole Studios said in a statement that, “We have expanded the partnership and will be working more closely with the XBox team to launch on the console faster and will get more support.”
