Gigantic Marijuana Company Purchases A Ghost Town In California, Plan On Turning It Into America’s Amsterdam

The largest publicly traded cannabis company in America just bought out a ghost town in California, with the intention of turning it into a mega-marijuana tourist attraction. The big pot company, known as American Green, purchased the town of Nipton, California, for a mere $5 million.

The town of Nipton was founded on February 9, 1905 on the southern border between California and Nevada. You’ve probably heard of Nipton if you’ve played the post-apocalyptic video game series Fallout. This town use to be booming as a result of the gold rush. But now, the population has dwindled to only 20 citizens. Now, Nipton may return to its glory days. But this time, it’s green gold they’re after!

For $5 million, American Green receives 120 acres of land, including an Old West-style hotel, a school building, mineral baths, a few houses, an RV park, and a coffee shop. This pot production company has some very ambitious ideas, as they plan on transforming a California ghost town into “an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination.”

Since cannabis was officially legalized for recreational purposes in California, a green rush may be on the horizon for The Golden State. American Green believes they can transform Nipton in a huge tourist attraction for pot smokers in both Cali and Nevada. The ghost town is only a short drive from major cities. To get to Nipton, you’ll have to drive about three hours by car from Los Angeles or only one hour from Las Vegas. The town lies on a railway near the Mojave National Preserve. It might just turn into the mecca of marijuana.

American Green project manager Stephen Shearin said, “We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’

Shearin’s intention is to “create a community that is accepting and understanding” of the use of cannabis. He says, “It’s about creating an environment where people come to work and share in a community.”

Companies that specialize in selling munchies-related products will likely be coming out in droves if this plan turns out to be successful.

A majority of Californians voted to legalize recreational uses of marijuana on November 8, 2016. This direct democracy initiative is known as Proposition 64, a.k.a. the Adult Use of Marijuana Act. Roughly 57% of voters chose “yes” for Prop. 64, while only 43% voted “no.” As a result, the Golden State has legalized the sale, manufacturing and distribution of cannabis in both a solid and liquid form.
