Rap legend Kid Creole, born Nathaniel Glover, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a drunk homeless man to death in New York City on Wednesday, August 2.
The 57-year-old Glover was taken into custody in the Bronx before being charged on the night of Wednesday, August 3.
According to reports, the homeless man was identified as John Jolly. Jolly was found stabbed on a sidewalk in Midtown around midnight on Tuesday, August 1.
Police say that Glover got into a fight with the 55-year-old Jolly because Glover reportedly thought Jolly was ‘hitting on him.’ Jolly is a convicted rapist.
The one-time trailblazing emcee works near the scene of the killing as a handyman and security guard and was on his way to his job, authorities said.
He had a run-in with Jolly, who was drunk, a police source said. “They had no prior relationship,” the source said. “They had words. Things got out of hand. It was some sort of diss.”
Glover thought Jolly — a convicted rapist and sex offender — was hitting on him, another source said. “He turned, interpreting that the guy was making an advance toward him,” the source said. “One thing led to another, and he shivved him twice in the chest,” the source said.
Passerbys called 911 aroun midnight on Tuesday, thinking he was merely passed out drunk, however, first responders were surprised when they found Jolly had suffered multiple stab wounds in his chest. Jolly was brought to Bellevue Hospital Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Glover, who was eventually Glover identified through surveillance video, was one of the members of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, a hip hop group formed in Bronx during the 1970s.
