A knife-wielding man crossed the border from Morocco to Spain, shouting “Allahu Akbar” at police. One officer was injured during the incident, while officers encircled the knifeman who wore shorts and a T-shirt.
One officer neutralized the situation by striking the man in the head with a large plastic bollard. The knife-wielding then fell to the floor as officer swooped down to subdue him. Meanwhile, hundreds gathered to cross the border from the North African nation. This all happened at 7:35 a.m. local time at the Beni Enzar access to the Spanish enclave of Melilla, according to a spokeswoman with the local office of the Interior Ministry.
The knife-wielding man has been arrested for his part in Tuesday’s disturbance. Spain’s Interior Ministry delegate for Melilla, Abdelamalik El Barkani informed reporters that one officer had been treated for a small cut on his finger.
The suspect is a 29-year-old Moroccan man. He was immediately arrested following the incident and taken to a police station, where he was questioned by authorities.
