Welcome to National Moon Day. On Thursday, July 20, 2017, America celebrates that big rock in the sky. And no, I’m not referring to the Reagan years or Dwayne Johnson. It’s all about that moon, baby!
Today, while the sun is blazing hot, remember to give props to the moon who is usually not. When I think about the moon, I’m brought back to nights looking up at that illuminating satellite in the sky with a glow that pierced through the darkness. A soft wind often accompanies this nighttime gaze, as the cool air soothes the nerves. And the moon watches back through the craters.
The moon is a feminine symbol representing the rhythm of time through lunar cycles. The moon has also symbolized immortality, eternity, fertility, madness (full moon), enlightenment or the dark side of nature. Full moons have often been associated with insanity and werewolves. Both are complete myths.
Selene is the ancient Greek goddess of the moon. She drives the moon across the skies every night.
