Happy National Hotdog Day! Break out those weenies (not for Harambe this time) and put those bad boys on a grill or in a hot pot. Today is a time dedicated to the hotdog in all of us. On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, America gives thanks to this floppy meat-based product.
Nathan’s Famous hotdogs has always been a hit or miss with me. Some are tastier than a motherf*cker. Other times, it’s very much meh. And then there are days when the dog is a sad, charred mess.
My dad loves to make hotdogs. He’d boil close to a dozen of them of the stove. Within the hour, at least half the hotdogs have been consumed. And over the next few hours, the rest of the dogs stew in the stinky water. The hotdogs remain floating in the pot until someone decides to fork them out and wrap ’em in foil. They’re then tossed in the refrigerator with all the other wayward food items.
And hotdog buns don’t come cheap either. Many times my family would stick to wonder-bread to wrap around our weenies. I know that doesn’t sound right. But the struggle is real and uncensored. But anyway, it actually tastes pretty good if you toast the bread.
