World Emoji Day is upon us! Monday, July 17, 2017, is a date specifically designated for all the emoji-madness from around the globe. Time to digitally express your emotions in the form of a kissie-smiley, a tiny slice of pizza, an angry face, or whatever you please.
Emojis were first created back in 1998 or ’99 in Japan by Shigetaka Kurita. He was working on NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode mobile Internet platform. He had no prior experience in design or programming, yet invented a whole new language by chance. Emojis are like the modern day Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Did you know that more than five billion emojis are sent on messanger worldwide every single day? That’s a lot of emojis, folks!
In the United States, the most popular emoji involve rolling on the floor while laughing. On Facebook and Twitter, the most used emoji is the “laugh cry face.” The second most used emoji worldwide is the heart eyes, as users show lust and/or affection through their cyber smiley faces.
It seems as if most people don’t like using negative emojis. On Facebook, none of the top 10 most used emojis express negative emotions.
