After tons of secrecy and lots of speculation, it’s finally been reported that Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor Who. She will be the Thirteenth Doctor in the beloved British science-fiction television series, and more importantly, Jodie will be the first woman to ever take on the lead role.

Watch BBC announce the big news in the video below.

Whittaker is replacing Peter Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor from Christmas 2013 to Christmas 2017. Doctor Who premiered all the way back in 1963, making it pretty damn amazing that the show is still so popular.

Jodie is from Skelmanthorpe, West Yorkshire, England, and she is 35-years-old. Some of her most notable roles up to this point in her career have been as Jessie in Venus (2006), Beverly in St Trinian’s (2007), Louise Evans in Wired (2008), Samantha Adams in Attack the Block (2011), Ruth Bowen in Marchlands (2011), Ffion in Black Mirror (2011), Beth Latimer in Broadchurch (2013-2017), Sandra Grimes in The Assets (2014), and Trish Tooley in The Smoke (2014).
