Venus Williams is a professional tennis player from Lynwood, California. Venus was born on June 17, 1980, and she is the older sister of Serena Williams. These two sisters have dominated the courts since bursting onto the scene, winning tons of Grand Slams and Olympic medals in both singles and doubles events.

Venus made her pro debut at just 14-years-old, playing her first match on October 31, 1994. It wasn’t long until she started having success, as she ended the 1997 season ranked as the 22nd player in the world. Venus won her first Grand Slam titles in 1998, taking down both the Australian Open and French Open in mixed doubles.

In 1999, Venus won two Grand Slam titles with Serena as her doubles partner, as the dynamic duo crushed the competition at the French Open and US Open. Venus had arguably the most successful year of her illustrious career in 2000, winning singles titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, a gold medal in singles, a gold medal in doubles, and a doubles title at Wimbledon.

As of this writing, Venus has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, with five of her victories coming at Wimbledon (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008) and two at the US Open (2000 and 2001). Venus and Serena have also combined to win a whopping 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles.

Venus has been ranked the number one player in the world by the World Tennis Association on three separate occasions, and she is truly one of the all-time greats to ever pick up a racket.
