Fresh Kid Ice, born Chris Wong Won, has died in Miami. The founding member of 2 Live Crew and a pioneer for Asian rappers was 53-years-old.

Specific details about his death are unknown at this time. According to the group’s manager, he died at 7:50 A.M. Thursday in a Miami hospital due to a previous medical condition.
Fresh Kid, whose real name was Chris Wong Won, formed the legendary hip-hop crew 2 Live Crew alongside DJ Mr. Mixx and Amazine Vee in 1984. They later were signed to Luther Campbell’s record label.
Fresh Kid and the group became supports for First Amendment Rights after their “As Nasty As They Wanna Be” album was the first to be labeled legally obscene by the government.
He and Campbell were arrested in 1990 after a live performance police argued was obscene and lewd.
Won also served four years in the U.S. Air Force before entering the music industry. He went on to found his own record label, Chinaman Records.
