KTLA reporter Wendy Burch did NOT have a fun 4th of July. The professional on camera personality was covering the annual Hermosa Beach Ironman competition on Independence Day having a grand ‘ol time when things took a serious turn south.
The Tuesday contest includes a one-mile run, one-mile swim in the ocean and then a six-beer chugging competition. One participant had some significant trouble with that last challenge.
While interviewing one Ironman contestant – who ironically had a bullseye and the works “puke here” on his back – the reporter was blasted by a wave of nauseating vomit. The event’s website boasts, “First to finish without puking wins!” Sadly, this contestant did not win and Burch was caught in the crossfire.
You can watch the drive-by puking in its full nightmarish glory right here.
Burch handled the whole ordeal like a champ, though.
“After that, it was a wrap,” the reporter said. “I drove home, took a hot shower and a long nap.” I would not have been as calm as her.
Look, I realize July 4th is the perfect holiday to drink. There’s sunshine, grilling and friendship; the conditions couldn’t be more perfect for the adult beverages to start flowing. But if you’re not partaking in the alcohol consumption, then you likely don’t expect to be in the vicinity of any vomit. Sadly, that was not the case for Burch and I think we’d all understand if she withdrew from covering the Ironman competition next year.
Oh well. Win or lose, we still booze!
