Authorities responded to reports of a plane down on the 405 Freeway Friday morning in Orange County.

The crash occurred on the freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit ramp near John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana around 9:30 A.M. local time.

What Happened?

Details are scarce but it appears that a small plane crash landed on the 405 freeway near John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California.

The plane crashed on the southbound freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit. The Cessna 310 aircraft landed on the freeway short of the runway at 9:35 a.m, the Santa Ana airport tweeted.  The airfield is closed to arrivals, but departures are not affected.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic log, two people were taken out of the plane. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The 405 freeway in Orange County is shut down in both directions.

“All we see is smoke,” Officer Latos Quinn said. Two people were on board the twin-engine Cessna 310 when it crashed “under unknown circumstances,” according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the FAA. Their condition was not immediately known.
