A man has been arrested after trying to drive his vehicle into a crowd of people in front of a mosque in Paris, according to police. No one was injured in the attack which took place in the Parisian suburb of Creteil.
What Happened?
Police say a man attempted to drive his car into a crowd of people outside a mosque in Paris. No one was injured in the attack and police said the man’s motivations remain unclear. He was not successful in reaching the crowd due to barriers placed around the mosque.
According to Le Parisien newspaper, the man said he had wanted to avenge attacks linked to Islamic State that have killed dozens in Paris over the past few years.
An investigation into the attempted attack will be conducted by a regular police department rather than an anti-terrorism unit.
Last week, a British man was charged with with terrorism-related murder and attempted murder after allegedly driving a rented van into a crowd of Muslims leaving Finsbury Park mosque on the night of June 19.
