Steve Carell started his career in the entertainment industry by performing and touring with a children’s theater company. In 1989, he appeared in a television commercial for Brown’s Chicken. In spring 1996, he was a cast member of The Dana Carvey Show, a small, short-lived sketch comedy program on ABC. Along with fellow cast member Stephen Colbert, Carell provided the voice of Gary, half of The Ambiguously Gay Duo, the Robert Smigel-produced animated short which continued on Saturday Night Live later that year.

However, his break-through year signified to be 2005. Carell signed a deal with NBC to star in the TV show, The Office. The mockumentary about life in the mid-sized paper supply company served as a remake of a successful British television series. Carell won a Golden Globe Award and Television Critics Association Award in 2006 for his role in The Office. He also received six Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work in the series (2006–2011). In addition, he earned approximately $175,000 per episode for the third season of The Office, twice his salary for the previous two seasons.

Carell participated in notable films including Evan Almighty (2007), Get Smart (2008), and the Despicable Me series (2010, 2013, and 2017). Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), as well as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), illustrate his acting brilliance. Inn 2015, Carrell was nominated for a Best Actor in a Leading role Academy Award following his dark tun in Foxcatcher.
