Christina Albini, a 43-year-old former Catholic school teacher from Canada, has been found guilty of sexual misconduct after she was discovered to be having an affair with one of her students.
The relationship was discovered after the boy’s mother found naked photos of Albini on the boy’s phone. Albini, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual interference, touching the body of a person under 16-years-old for a sexual purpose.
According to the court ruling in the Ontario Court of Justice, Albini has been sentenced to one year in jail. She also must register as a sex offender and must provide her DNA.
Albini, a former teacher at King Catholic Elementary School in Georgetown, Ontario, was arrested in July 2016 on the charges.
Albini would pick up the boy in her purple Dodge Challenger and take him to her home where they would have sex, according to an agreed statement of facts read in court at the beginning of May.
In court, the judge acknowledged Albini’s guilty plea, which spared the victim and victim’s family suffering through a prolonged trial.
The Ontario College of Teachers is moving forward with its own investigation now that the criminal case is done, said spokesperson Brian Jameison. He added the college can’t offer any specifics on the matter, but will put a notice of hearing on their website when the investigation is finished.
In addition to the prison term, Albini will be on probation for three years after her release, in addition to registering as a sex offender for 20 years.
While Albini was charged with sexual interference, charges of possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and making sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 based on photos found on a cell phone were dropped as part of a plea deal.
